Former Legg Mason Champion and last years runner-up Andy Roddick returned to form tonight with 6-4 6-4 victory over Slovakian qualifier Grega Zemlja. Roddick didnt face a single break point all match and finished the match winning 90% of first serve points. Zemlja came into the match dismantling Donald Young in straights during the qualifiers followed by a straight set upset victory over German Benjamin Becker.
Roddick, who lost Legg Mason in the grueling heat last summer to future U.S. Open Champion, Juan Martin Del Potro has a very favorable draw this year. A-ROD was bounced by the red-hot and slimmer down Mardy Fish in Atlanta two weeks ago. Fish has looked amazing this summer winning Newport and running thru the field in Atlanta, knocking down John Isner in the finals. Look for either one of these Americans to possibly make a run this week outside the nations capital.
In other news...The once suspended Richard Gasquet retired after dropping the first set to Kristof Vligien. The X-man, Xavier Malisse had little trouble with Frenchmen Julian Benneteau. Fernando Verdasco needed 3 sets and a tiebreaker to take care of German Michael Berrer and Mardy Fish sent Victor Troiki PACKING. American hopeful Ryan Sweeting, fresh off the match of his life vs Jame Blake, continued to shine taking out Michael Llodra in straights 6-4 6-2 and Marin Cilic easily took care of Denis Istomin.
