#1 seed Tomas Berdych was the latest victim to Xavier Malisse this afternoon in a three set, topsy-turvy match. Berdych, who burst onto the scene this year by taking out Roger Federer on grass at Wimbledon, played spotty tennis for two hours. The #1 seeds first set was horrific has he had over 20 unforced errors and broken twice. The 2nd set was a different story as the serves were coming in faster and his first serve win percetange at 82%. Malisse, seemed bothered in the 2nd with a possible blister on his right foot. The 3rd set was similar to the first. Malisse never had a break point on his serve and Berdych increased his unforced errors after playing a flawless 2nd set. Berdych was pushed the distance against Tursunov, Golubev and it finally caught up with him against the X-man. Malisse hasn't won a title since 2007 when he won Del Ray and Chennai, both hard court surface. Malisse took out Juan Carlos Ferrero in a 1st round Wimbledon upset but since then hasn't seen a semi-final. In other news, Marcos Baghdatis rolled to a straight set victory of Spaniard Fernando Verdasco.
